OVERVIEW....
Although the world in which the story of Ephemera takes place is roughly equivalant to Earth-world Renaissance times, there are several key changes in how society has evolved that affect changes. Particularly, differences in religious emphasis, scientific advances promoted by forces subtler than physics, and geographically driven isolations set the stage for a world that is only an imitation of "the true" Renaissance setting. As the story progresses, more of these nuances will be explored, and hopefully be self-contained within the story; as much for my benefit as anyone else's, though, some of these concepts are already explained here.
